OA INDUCTION
ABOUT THE INDUCTION
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting America’s National Honor Society. The OA recognizes Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily lives. Through service, leadership, adventure, and fellowship, the OA develops servant leaders who strengthen their units, communities, and Scouting.

Scouts and Scouters selected by their fellow unit members are welcomed as new members of the Order of the Arrow and are invited to complete an induction experience. The induction experience consists of service, inspirational ceremonies, and time for self-reflection for new members to reflect on their Scouting journey and gain a deeper understanding of the values and traditions of the Order of the Arrow. New members are guided by experienced Arrowmen who provide support, encouragement, and inspiration while helping them understand what it means to live a life guided by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
ELIGIBILITY FOR INDUCTION
-
Be a registered member of Scouting America.
-
Have experienced 15 nights of Scout camping within the two years prior to the election. These nights must include one long-term camp consisting of five consecutive nights.
-
Youth be under age 21 and hold at least the rank of First Class (Scouts BSA), Discovery (Venturing), or Ordinary (Sea Scouts), with approval from their unit leader.
-
Adult Scouters (age 21 and older) may be nominated and selected for membership in the Order of the Arrow. Adult selections are based on the individual's ability to support the Order of the Arrow's purpose, provide service to youth, and enhance the program for all members. Adults are selected through a separate nomination and approval process.

Following the election, selected Scouts and Scouters will receive information about upcoming induction opportunities. As new members of the Order of the Arrow, they are invited to participate in an induction weekend where they will learn more about the traditions, purpose, and values of the Order while joining fellow Arrowmen in service and fellowship.

Upon completion of the induction, new members will receive their Order of the Arrow sash and lodge flap, marking the culmination of their induction and the beginning of their lifelong journey of cheerful service.
